Barisal BCL men assault Jubo League members
Three Barisal city Jubo League members yesterday accused the city Bangladesh Chhatra League president of assaulting and barring them from tendering for a Tk 21.9 crore project of Local Government Engineering Department (LGED).
Saiful Islam Titu, Kabir Hossain and Faruk Hossain claimed that they were individually bidding for the Coastal Climate Resilient Infrastructures Project, being funded by the government and Asian Development Bank.
Saiful said they were attacked by men being led by the president, Jasimuddin, in LGED Barisal office premises when they declined to refrain from submitting their bids.
Denying the beating and barring allegations, Jasimuddin claimed that he had only tried to negotiate with the three so that the pro-Awami League student organisation's men could join the project's implementation.
LGED Barisal office Executive Engineer Ruhul Amin stated that he had received no formal complaint and had called in law enforcers on hearing commotion outside the office.
