Bangladesh spinners stun Kuwait to reach semi-finals
Bangladesh have stormed into the semi-finals of men's cricket beating Kuwait by 203 runs in the fourth quarterfinal match at Incheon in South Korea today.
The Tigers appeared too strong for their Middle Eastern opponents who had all the troubles chasing a massive total of 224 in 20 overs at the Yeonhui Cricket Ground.
Batting first, the Bangladesh openers looked comfortable. After Anamul Haque returned to the pavilion scoring 38 runs off 18 balls, Mohammad Mithun joined Tamim Iqbal on the crease.
Kuwait bowlers seemed helpless as Mithun sent the ball to all directions, hammering 59 from just 25 balls with four boundaries and three over boundaries.
Tamim contributed 28 runs of 22 balls while Shabbir 35 off 18 balls.
Returning to the national squad after a two and a half months ban, Shakib Al Hasan scored 23 runs off 15 balls.
Kuwait's right-arm off-break bowler Bastaki Fahad appeared top bowler bagging three wickets for 48 runs. Bastaki Mahmoud, Alkandari Mohammad and Alotaibi Mohammed clinched two wickets each.
When Kuwait took to the field to chase 224, the pacers deprived the batsmen from scoring runs. But it was the spinners who ripped through the Kuwait batting line-up.
Shakib drew the first flood off Kuwait in the fifth over bowling opener Eissa Jassim, who scored 1 run from 19 balls.
Mahmudullah hit in the next over removing the other opener, Beidas Tareq who managed to score just 2 from 12 balls.
No Kuwait batsman succeeded to reach double figure as the chasers folded for just 23 runs with seven overs to spare. Right-hand batsman Alotaibi Mohammed scored highest 7 runs for Kuwait.
Slow left-arm orthodox Arafat Sunny took four wickets for eight runs while Mahmudullah bagged three wickets for just 1 run. Shakib and Shabbir Rahman took one wicket each.
