Hawker stabbed to death by fellows
A hawker was stabbed to death and another injured allededly by their fellows at Chandni Chowk market in the capital's New Market area yesterday afternoon.
The dead, Khokon Mollah, 24, a resident of Kamrangirchar, used to sell clothes on a footbridge in New Market area.
Injured Babul Bepari, 40, was undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) in a critical condition, police said.
Khokon and Babul were locked in an altercation with another hawker after they had lunch at a restaurant there around 3:00pm, said Maruf Hossain Sorder, deputy commissioner (Ramna division) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police.
At one stage, the attackers stabbed Khokon and Babul and managed to flee the scene, the police official said, adding that the reason behind the altercation could not be known immediately.
However, some hawkers said Shahabuddin had a quarrel with Khokon and Babul over a trifling matter on Monday. Following this, Shahabuddin and two others stabbed Khokon and Babul.
Shahabuddin sells cosmetics products in the area, said Shamim Mollah, brother-in-law of Khokon.
There is a stab mark on the deceased's chest, while Babul has an injury mark on his abdomen, said the DMCH source.
