Robber killed in 'gunfight'
An alleged leader of a robber gang was killed in a “gunfight” with Rapid Action Battalion in Companiganj Upazila of Noakhali yesterday.
The deceased was identified as Ibrahim Majhi, 50, from Urir Char union of Sandwip, Chittagong.
Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Meemtanul from Rab-7 said a gang of robbers, led by Ibrahim, was preparing to carry out a robbery in the coastal area. On receiving the tip-off, a Rab-7 team raided the place where the robbers were hiding.
He said sensing presence of the Rab members, the gang opened fire on them. As Rab retaliated a “gunfight” ensued, leaving Ibrahim dead. The others fled the area.
Meemtanul said his team seized one foreign piston and sharp weapons. A total 13 weapons were seized from the spot.
Officer-in-Charge Asaduzzaman of Companiganj Police Station said the body was sent to the morgue of Noakhali General Hospital.
