Make it easy for people to get info
President Abdul Hamid yesterday asked the Information Commission to ease its procedures so that general people could easily get information through the Right to Information Act-2009.
He said this when a three-member delegation of the commission, led by Chief Information Commissioner Prof Golam Rahman, submitted its annual report-2016 to him at the Bangabhaban yesterday afternoon.
President's Press Secretary Joynal Abedin briefed reporters after the meeting.
Saying that the Right to Information Act-2009 could play a vital role in ensuring transparency and accountability of government and non-government officers, Hamid stressed the need for launching a massive campaign to create mass awareness about the act at the grassroots level.
During the meeting, the delegation apprised the president of different activities of the commission and various aspects of the report.
Golam Rahman said the Information Commission received more applications from information seekers in 2016 compared to previous years.
He also informed the president that the commission already selected a site for setting up its own building and started its construction process.
The chief information commissioner sought cooperation and suggestion of the president in carrying out the activities of the commission.
