First grader 'raped' in Gazipur
A man allegedly raped a schoolgirl in the district's Sreepur upazila and kept the victim and her mother confined to their home for six days with the help of his associates to hush up the crime.
Police rescued the girl, a first grader at a primary school, and her mother from the home in Chinashukhania village yesterday afternoon.
The girl's mother said accused rapist Billal Hossain, 45, of the same village called her daughter to his home around 11:00am on Friday to sweep his room. As she was about to return home, Billal pulled her by the hand, gagged and violated her.
Returning home, the victim told her mother about the incident.
Helal Uddin, sub-inspector (operations) of Sreepur Police Station, said acting on a tip off, they rescued the schoolgirl and her mother from their home yesterday afternoon. The two were in protective custody at the police station.
The victim's mother filed a case with Sreepur Police Station against Billal, his brother Dulal, 48, Dulal's son Rubel, 22, and another local Helal Uddin Bhuiyan, 45.
Police arrested Rubel, but the rest of the accused were on the run.
The complainant alleged that Sufia Begum, member of Rajabari Union Parishad, threatened her not to disclose the incident.
Sufia, however, refuted the allegation.
