Comilla blast mysterious
A female student of Comilla University has suffered burns to 45 percent of her body, in an incident that police said was “mysterious”.
A case was filed with Comilla Sadar (South) Police Station against three female students of the university, including victim Fahmida Hasan Nisha, under the Anti-Terrorism Act yesterday.
The other two are: Nur Nahar Hossain Rupa, of Computer Science and Engineering department, and Morzina Akhter, of Accounting department.
Nisha, a student of Economics department, suffered burn injuries in an explosion at a mess in Salmanpur area on Tuesday morning. She is now undergoing treatment at the burn unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
The three students shifted to the rented house the day before the explosion, said Nazrul Islam, officer-in-charge of Comilla Sadar (South) Police Station.
Police have arrested Rupa and Morzina.
"The explosion was mysterious. It was a chemical explosion, but we could not immediately identify what kind of chemical it was," said the police official.
Members of Crime Scene Unit of the Criminal Investigation Department had collected evidence from the spot.
Before the examination, it could not be ascertained how the explosion had happened, the OC told The Daily Star.
Police detained six female students from the mess on Tuesday.
After primary interrogation, police freed all except Rupa and Morzina as they found the statements of the duo were not satisfactory, the police official said.
The OC claimed that police recovered some leaflets of Islami Chhatri Sangstha, female student body of Jamaat-e-Islami, from the house.
The police official added that there is no gas cylinder at the house and it has no gas supply.
