Call for punishment intensifies
With people continuing to protest the gruesome murder of 13-year-old Rakib in Khulna, the police yesterday started investigation into the killing and took statements of several witnesses.
Demanding punishment for Rakib's killers, a protest rally, organised by Janauddog, a citizen forum, was held at Khulna city's Picture Palace intersection, reports BSS.
Leaders of the forum said the state should take proper action against Rakib's killers. Later, they formed a human chain there.
Chaired by convener of the organisation advocate Kudrat-e-Khuda, the rally was also addressed, among others, by Rakib's parents; AL leader Shyamol Singha Roy; BNP leader Nazrul Islam Manju; and Workers Party leader Mofidul Islam.
Meanwhile, Khulna Kotwali Police Station Officer-in-Charge Sukumar Biswas told The Daily Star that the investigation officer of the case recorded statements of five to six witnesses to the killing.
Besides, a probe committee led by Additional Police Commissioner Mahbub Hakim of Khulna Metropolitan Police visited the crime scene yesterday, said the OC.
Sukumar said accused Md Sharif and his uncle Mintu Khan were still at Khulna Medical College Hospital. Sharif's mother, another accused, was sent to the court on Tuesday with a 10-day remand prayer. The court would hear the petition today, he added.
Thirteen-year-old Rakib was brutally killed allegedly by Sharif and Mintu on Monday as he left his old garage job and joined elsewhere.
