Arrest of all perpetrators a matter of time: PM
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina yesterday in parliament said arrest of all perpetrators involved in the recent militant attacks in the capital's Gulshan and Sholakia in Kishoreganj was “a matter of time.”
"Perpetrators behind the scene -- patrons, plotters, trainers and financiers of the terrorists -- should be tracked down no matter whether they are from home or abroad. It's our duty to trace them," she said.
It will not be a tough job, Hasina said in reply to lawmakers' queries.
“I believe we'll certainly be able to nab them and give them exemplary punishment.”
Hasina, president of the ruling Awami League, also said the government had already taken steps to restore foreign investors' confidence.
Referring to the video footage showing four suspects of the July 1 terror attack in Gulshan, which is available in the media and went viral in social networking sites, she said some of the criminals had been identified.
“If anyone can identify the other suspects, I'll request them to inform the government and the law enforcement agencies. It'll be helpful in arresting those people.”
All the friendly nations condemned the attacks, saying they were with Bangladesh, the leader of the House said.
Her government has received support from various countries as the whole world is now united to tackle militancy and terrorism.
"They also expressed their willingness to assist Bangladesh…. They have assured us that such incidents are going on worldwide and this is the reality," Hasina said.
The PM also expressed deep sorrow at the deaths of some important dignitaries in these attacks.
BANGABANDHU SATELLITE-1
In reply to a query, the PM said, once launched, the Bangabandhu Satellite-1 would help the country save US $14 million every year which is spent as rental cost for foreign satellites.
“It'll also create scopes for earning foreign currency,” she said in a scripted answer.
She also said her government has a plan to launch the Bangabandhu Satellite-2 and the Bangabandhu Satellite-3 in phases after the successful launching of the Bangabandhu Satellite-1.
The government is expected to launch the Bangabandhu Satellite-1 on December 16, next year. It will take two weeks to reach its destination.
"The satellite would begin commercial activities fully from April, 2018 after test mission," added the PM.
LOCOMOTIVES, COACHES
In reply to another query, Hasina said her government has planned to procure 100 more locomotives and 773 passenger coaches as part of an initiative for the development of the country's railway communications.
She said the government has been implementing 43 projects involving Tk 86, 030 crore on the railway.
She also said the government has been working by giving its highest importance in building the railway as a modern, time-befitting, safe, cost-effective, environment-friendly, dependable and passenger service-oriented mass transport service.
