Ananta 'received death threat' weeks before his murder
Blogger Ananta Bijoy Das had received a death threat over the phone from an unknown number some 21 to 25 days before his murder in Sylhet city, according to his friends.
Three friends with whom Ananta had shared the matter told a correspondent in Sylhet about the death threat. They wished not to be named.
Police had already sought details of Aanata's cell phone call list and texts from his mobile operator for investigation, said Rahmat Ullah, additional deputy commissioner (media) of Chittagong Metropolitan Police.
Meanwhile, Inspector General of Police AKM Shahidul Hoque yesterday said they were sincerely trying to identify and arrest the killers of bloggers – Ananta, Avijit Roy and Oyasiqur Rahman.
“They [killers] used new tricks to murder the bloggers. So police are also pondering over the counter actions they [bloggers] can take [under the circumstances],” he told a press briefing at the police headquarters in the capital.
Police are also investigating whether Sylhet-based friends of Shafiur Rahman Farabi, the lone arrestee in the Avijit murder case, had any links to the killing of Ananta.
Farabi was arrested after the February 26 killing of Avijit as he had issued repeated death threats to the blogger.
The IGP said they would try to ensure the bloggers' security.
