AL bodies occupy govt land to set up offices
The Awami League and its associate body Jubo Mahila League are setting up offices on government land in Kalai upazila of Joypurhat.
Kalai AL is erecting a building on 2.85 decimal land of Roads and Highways Department (RHD) near Kalai bus terminal, said RHD officials.
Jubo Mahila League is constructing its office on 3.24 decimal land of Zila Parishad near the Kalai upazila bungalow, said Zila Parishad officials.
In June, Khandakar Halimul Alam, president of Kalai AL and also Kalai municipality mayor, inaugurated the construction work of the building near the bus terminal.
Contacted, Halimul Alam said they have sent a letter to the Prime Minister's Office recently, seeking permission to build the structure there.
Minfuzur Rahman Milon, organising secretary of district AL and also chairman of Kalai Upazila Parishad, inaugurated the construction work of the Jubo Mahila League office on April 22.
Visiting the spots recently, our Dinajpur correspondent found that the construction works were going on in full swing.
Former office secretary of AL's Kalai upazila unit, Goffar Hossain Delwar, was looking after the construction work of the Jubo Mahila League's 1440-square-feet office.
On July 29, a notice signed by Khalid Saiful, deputy divisional engineer of RHD of Joypurhat, was sent to Delwar, asking for removal of the structure within 10 days.
Delwar claimed that he took lease of the land from the Zila Parishad for Tk 11,520 for doing business.
Chief Executive Officer of Joypurhat Zila Parishad Abu Bakkar Siddique said a lessee can build a temporary structure, not a permanent one.
“We'll look into the matter seriously,” he said.
Executive Engineer of Joypurhat RHD Sunil Kumar Saha said they have issued several notices in this regard.
They will request the deputy commissioner and the superintendent of police in Joypurhat to take necessary action to remove the illegal structure, he added.
PABNA SCHOOL FACES HASSLE
Atgharia upazila Jubo League has built a tin-shed house as its office right in front of Debottar Pilot Girls High School in Pabna, ignoring pleas from the school authorities.
“Female students feel uncomfortable to come to the school as they are sometimes harassed by outsiders,” Abdul Quader, headmaster of the school, told our Pabna correspondent.
He also said he submitted a written complaint to the upazila nirbahi officer and the education office on August 16, seeking removal of the Jubo League office.
President of Jubo League of Atgharia upazila Ashraful Alam said they set up the office there temporarily. He claimed the land belongs to Pabna Zila Parishad.
Contacted, Upazila Nirbahi Officer Alimun Rajib said they would take necessary actions following investigation.
