4 held for 'mugging'
Police arrested four suspected snatchers, including an upazila-level leader of Bangladesh Chhatra League, in the capital's Pallabi area yesterday.
The arrestees are Tuhin Khan, general secretary of Gopalganj's Kashiani upazila unit BCL, Palash Kumar, Mamunur Rahman and Monwar Hossain. All of them are from the same upazila, said Dadon Fakir, officer-in-charge of Pallabi Police Station.
The arrests were made following information that the four had been snatching valuables of locals, riding on motorbikes, for long, the OC said.
Police said incidents of snatching increased in Pallabi area in recent times, and they were receiving complaints that bike-riding muggers snatching away valuables like laptops, mobile phones and handbags of pedestrians.
Tipped off, law enforcers picked up a man with a laptop near Popular Diagnostic Centre in the area. Following information provided by man, they detained the three others from a flat in Pallabi early yesterday morning.
Three laptops and several mobile phones were recovered from the flat, the OC said, adding that a case was filed against the four.
