3 hurt in Ctg as shots fired over tender
Three people suffered bullet injuries in a clash between two groups of Chhatra League activists over distribution of tender form of ghats under Chittagong City Corporation yesterday afternoon.
The victims are Towhidul Islam, 30, a lawyer of Chittagong, Ashok Deb alias Liton, 37, a contractor of Chittagong City Corporation and Ovi Pal, 22, a pedestrian. They were admitted to Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH), said Sub-inspector Jahirul Islam, of the CMCH police outpost.
Witnesses said the conflict ensued between two groups of BCL when Abdullah Al Mamun, former BCL leader of Chittagong city unit, prevented Milton, former general secretary of Chittagong Polytechnic Institute unit BCL, from withdrawing the tender form from the city corporation around 3:00pm. Then the two groups were locked in an altercation. Later, Chittagong City Corporation Mayor AJM Nasir Uddin drove the two groups out form the building.
Again the two groups attacked each other in front of Chittagong City Corporation building around 5:30pm.
During the clash, the three suffered bullet injuries.
A city corporation official said yesterday was the last day for collecting tender form for 17 ghats that fall under the jurisdiction of the city corporation.
