Baby Nazneen briefly detained
Police released prominent singer Baby Nazneen nearly an hour after detaining her as she went to visit BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia at the latter’s Gulshan office in Dhaka this evening.
Rafiqul Islam, officer-in-charge of Gulshan Police Station, told The Daily Star that they freed Nazneen around 9:00pm.
Law enforces barred Nazneen from entering the office around 7:30pm, Sayrul Kabir Khan and Shamsuddin Didar, the BNP chief’s press wing staff, told The Daily Star.
The singer tried to convince the police to allow her to visit Khaleda, but the law enforcers picked her up around 8:10pm and took her to Gulshan Police Station by a microbus, duty officer of the station confirmed.
During her efforts to convince the police, Nazneen said, “She [Khaleda] is my mother. I have come to know from media reports that she is starving. So, I have prepared soup for her by myself. Please let me meet her.
“I’m not a politician and not involved in any politics.”
Police, deployed around Khaleda’s office, continued curb on food supplies for her office staff since February 11.
