Asked by BCB, Shakib returns
In line with the directives of Bangladesh Cricket Board, all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan today returned home from London on his way to Barbados without attending the upcoming Caribbean Premier League (CPL) there.
Talking about his decision to take part in the CPL without No Objection Certificate (NOC), Shakib said there might be a misunderstanding between the board and him over the issue as “one-sided remarks always create confusion”.
After listening both sides, many issues become normal, Shakib said, adding, “It’s my belief and I hope that everything will be clear if I talk to Papon bhai (BCB president Nazmul Hassan Papon) as from my ground, I didn’t do anything wrong so far,” he claimed.
“After listening me, the board authorities will determine my fate as per their wish,” Shakib said.
On his arrival at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport around 11:30am, the 27-year-old cricketer was talking to reporters.
Regarding the board permission, Shakib said, “I went to the board and talked to Sujon bhai (Khaled Mahmud) and Akram bhai (Akram Khan, chairman of the cricket operations committee) about the NOC. And I also informed the trainer on July 1.”
“Akram bhai gave his verbal consent when I went to him and told about my tour,” Shakib said.
“If he had forbid me, I would have never gone,” he said.
Shakib had left Dhaka on July 2 Shakib for Barbados to play the entire tournament for the Barbados Tridents. He was expected to join Bangladesh in mid-August, in time for the side's series against West Indies.
On July 3, BCB's acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Nizamuddin Chowdhury asked Shakib to return home camp for leaving the country without NOC from the board.
Earlier, the CEO asked Shakib to wait, an instruction which he did not follow.
The left hander, however, had received verbal approval for his departure from cricket operations chairman Akram Khan.
A decision on this matter would be taken at a board meeting on July 7, as there is a lack of clarity regarding the NOC Shakib was supposed to have obtained from the BCB to participate in the West Indies league, according to the ESPNcricinfom report.
Barbados' last game of the season is scheduled for August 10 while the CPL final is on August 16. Bangladesh begin their West Indies tour with the ODI series, which starts on August 20.
Shakib played all eight games for Barbados Tridents in the inaugural season of the CPL last year, ending up as the second highest wicket-taker in the competition behind Krishmar Santokie.
