Asian Games: Bangladesh beat Afghanistan 1-0
Bangladesh U-23 national team made a winning start in their Asian Games campaign when they beat Afghanistan 1-0 at the Munhak Stadium in Incheon, South Korea today.
Skipper Mamunul Islam scored the winning goal in the 84th minute of the match with a low drive from the edge of the box.
Afghanistan, who are 31 places above Bangladesh in the FIFA rankings, enjoyed lion’s share of possession in the first half and created a number of opportunities to score, but failed to capitalise. Bangladesh reorganised themselves in the second half and played comparatively better before snatching the decisive goal.
Bangladesh will play their second match of Group B against favourites Uzbekistan on September 18 before taking on Hong Kong on September 22.
