USHERING IN A NEW HORIZON OF NAZRUL SANGEET
It was an informal gathering of both eminent and emerging Nazrul Sangeet artistes at the auditorium of Nazrul Institute, Dhanmondi on June 5, on the occasion of their album launch. Nazrul Institute released 10 CDs featuring diverse songs of Kazi Nazrul Islam under a new project. A total of 73 singers from across Bangladesh have recorded 125 songs of our National Poet.
“The recording started January of last year. More such CDs by other singers are on cards. The project also includes five recitation albums / CDs by noted elocutionists of the country who have recorded 100 poems of Kazi Nazrul Islam,” said Ikram Ahmed, executive director of Nazrul Institute.
Eminent Nazrul Sangeet artiste Sudhin Das attended the event as chief guest. Professor Emeritus Rafiqul Islam, the chairman of Nazrul Institute Trustee Board, presided over the event while Ikram Ahmed delivered the welcome address. Poet Rezauddin Stalin hosted the event.
“A vile section of the society is still active in a 'character assassination' of Kazi Nazrul Islam, stigmatising his legacy. I am deeply concerned how singer-teacher Pradip Kumar Nandi published a book with misleading information on Kazi Nazrul Islam. I recommended against publishing the book as the manuscript contained misleading information demeaning our National Poet,” said Professor Rafiqul Islam.
“The released CDs will definitely guide the forthcoming artistes to precisely follow the original tunes and rendition of Nazrul Sangeet,” said Sudhin Das.
Apart from the guests, eminent Nazrul Sangeet artistes Khalid Hossain, Shaheen Samad, Sadya Afreen Mallick, Fatema-Tuz-Zohra and Rawshan Ara Shoma spoke on various aspects of our National Poet and his musical creations.
In response to Shaheen Samad's comment on the marketing strategy of the released CDs, Professor Rafiqul Islam said, “We have already completed a contract with online shop rokomari for marketing of the CDs.”
“We had deviated from the original tunes of Kazi Nazrul Islam's compositions. Now it is a matter of pride and joy that we have the original tunes of the Bard's compositions thanks to the great initiatives (formulation of swaralipi and release of Nazrul Sangeet and recitation albums) of Nazrul Institute,” said Sadya Afreen Mallick.
Later, a number of artistes rendered a popular patriotic song “Eki Oporoop Roop-e Ma Tomaye” of the poet.
A formal inaugural ceremony will take place after Eid informed Shahid Khan, coordinator of the project.
