SYED BADRUDDIN HOSSAIN THEATRE FEST BEGINS TODAY AT SHILPAKALA
Padatik Natya Sangsad (TSC) is organising a seven-day theatre festival at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) from April 5 - 11. The festival, titled, "Syed Badruddin Hossain Smirit Natyotsab and Sharok Sommanona'17", is being arranged to mark the 94th birth anniversary (April 11) of eminent educationist, Language Movement veteran and lifetime chairman of Padatik Natya Sangsad, Syed Badruddin Hossain.
The inauguration ceremony will take place today (April 5), at the National Theatre Hall of BSA at 6pm. The staging of the play will start at 7pm at two venues – National Theatre Hall and Experimental Theatre Hall of BSA.
This is the eighth theatre festival by Padatik. The troupe has been organising the festival since 2010. They have also been honouring two noted personalities with the Sharok Sommanona. The memorial recipients from the year 2010 to 2016 will inaugurate the festival. A host of prominent theatre personalities are expected to attend the inaugural programme.
A press conference was held in a city hotel on April 3. One of the prominent members of the troupe Shamsi Ara Sayka elaborated on the festival through a written statement. Sheikh Mosleh Uddin, Mominul Haque, Wahidul Islam and Hamidur Rahman were also present at the press conference.
The festival will feature popular plays by 10 theatre troupes from Bangladesh and India. The participating troupes are the host Padatik Nattya Sangsad (TSC), Aranyak Natyadal, Mohakal Natya Sampraday, Theatre Art Unit, Nagorik Natyangon, Prachyanat, BotTala, Batighar, Anwesha Theatre (Mymensingh) and an Indian troupe Curtain Call.
In addition to plays, the festival will feature cultural programmes every evening from 5pm to 6:30pm at the premises of the National Theatre Hall.
This year, two prominent theatre personalities will receive Syed Badruddin Hossain Memorial Award 2017 for their outstanding contribution to theatre. The recipients are SM Solaiman (posthumous) and Lucky Enam.
