An Inspector Calls - on the Dhaka stage
An adaptation of JB Priestley's classic play "An Inspector Calls" will be staged in Dhaka this weekend, produced by Jatrik. Three stagings of the play will be presented at the Gulshan Club – one at 8pm today, and two shows at 3:30pm and 8pm tomorrow.
The production takes place in a fictional city in Bangladesh, one evening in 2012, as an ordinary evening of banter and celebration in the Birling family. It is interrupted by the visit of a mysterious Inspector. Through the course of the evening, the real faces of the characters come to the fore and takes the audience on a reflective journey.
Directed by Naila Azad, it stars Munize Manzur, Toufikul Islam Emon, Shormi Mala, Ariq Anam Khan, Shaan Rahman, Afia Rashid, Nafis Salman and Shakil Ahmed.
Jatrik, which generally produces literary and cultural events, aims to produce a number of Bangla and English plays, aside from their scheduled events.
