Ganga-Jamuna Fest to open October 21
The Ganga-Jamuna Theatre and Cultural Festival, one of the major cultural festivals of the country, will see its curtains rise at the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) on October 21. The ten-day festival, in its fifth edition this year, will see a staggering 82 cultural troupes from Bangladesh and India perform stage plays, music, dance, recitation and street theatre.
Like previous years, the cultural programmes at the open stage of BSA will be held every day from 4pm-6:30pm, while three theatrical productions will be staged simultaneously at the National Theatre Hall, Experimental Theatre Hall and Studio Theatre Hall from 7pm.
This year's festival has been dedicated to the recently-deceased littérateur Syed Shamsul Haq.
The festival will be opened by Indian theatre troupe HoJoBoRoLo, staging their play "Ipsha", starring Debshankar Halder. Other troupes bringing their plays to the festival are Prangonemor, Kanthashilon, Biborton (Jessore), Somoy, Charunidam, Padataik Natya Sangsad (TSC), Nagorik Natya Sampraday, Natyajoddha, Alternative Living Theatre (India), Theatre Art Unit, Nagorik Natyangan Ensemble, Theatre Baily Road, Drishtipat Natya Sangsad, Cox's Bazar Theatre, Nrityanchal, Dhaka Padataik, Natyateertha, Anik (India), Aranyak Natya Dal, Chandrakala Theatre, Prachyanat, Loko Natyadal Siddheshwari, Natyakendra, Subachan Natya Sangsad, Mohakal Natya Sampraday, Moitree Theatre, Dhaka Theatre, Shobdo Natyacharcha Kendra and Jagoroni Theatre.
The festival has been held annually since 2012, with an aim to exchange cultural experience and strengthen the bond between Bangladesh and India.
The cultural affairs ministry of the Bangladesh government, the India-Bangladesh Foundation and BSA are assisting in the holding of the festival.
