Darpan Theatre celebrates 32nd anniv
On October 10, 1986, while the country was raging in protest of dictatorship in Bangladesh, a theatre group was born in the land of culture and prosperity.
Darpan Theatre, a prominent theatrical troupe of Sylhet celebrated its 32-year journey with a celebration programme and theatre show at Kabi Nazrul Auditorium in Sylhet on Friday.
"Prane Pran Melaboi, Bole Rakhi" -- musical lines by Kofil Ahmed was adopted by the theatre as their Slogan of the celebration.
At the open stage (Muktomoncho) of the auditorium, a discussion was arranged. Jafar Sadek, president of the troupe chaired the session.
The theatre troupe honoured its founding members Uttam Singha Ratan, Niranjan DeyJadu, Bishwarup Dey Piklu, Shah Montajir Ali Nazmul and Nilotpol Ghose, along with light designer Champak Sarkar and creative designer Arup Baul.
The troupe also presented music, dance, street theatre and recitation, following which a souvenir publication was unveiled on stage. Invited guest troupes Nrityashoily, Chanda Nrityalaya and Nagarnat also performed in the stage.
The celebration came to a close with the staging of veteran theatre activist Badal Sarkar's drama "Hottomalar Opare" at the main stage of the auditorium, in front of a houseful audience. The drama is a story of two thieves. The comedy drama was a regularly-staged production of Darpan Theatre back in 2004.
Nahid Parvez and Supriyo Deb Shanto re-directed the production in proscenium form, breaking the common form of Badal Sarkar, the third theatre.
