Syed Jahangir's “Memories Beyond Time” extended
Veteran painter Syed Jahangir's solo art exhibition titled “Memory Beyond Time” opened in the capital's Abinta Gallery of Fine Arts on November 11, and has been extended till December 7.
Finance Minister AMA Muhith inaugurated the exhibition.
Syed Jahangir, a fine art student from the Institute of Fine Arts (presently Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Dhaka), started his career as a professional artist in 1955 and continued to work freelance up to the end of 1977 when he took up a job at the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy as Director, Department of Fine Arts. During these 22 years as a professional artist, Jahangir has been prolific in producing water colours, oils, acrylics and drawing.
He has participated in more than 100 national and international group and 41 solo exhibitions. Art connoisseurs of the world have so far collected more than 9,000 of his works individually and through institutions.
Jahangir is a recipient of the Ekushey Padak (1985) and Sultan Gold Medal (2005) and many other coveted awards in his artistic career.
Since his retirement from Shilpakala Academy he has gone back to his private studio to resume painting and has regularly been producing works bearing the stamp of innovation versatility and striking originality.
