Musical homage to Waheedul Haq
As a tribute to eminent cultural activist and Tagore exponent Waheedul Haq, the driving force behind the nationalist cultural movement for decades, Chhayanaut arranged a musical programme titled “Desh Ghar-er Gaan 1421”. Featuring the rich heritage of Bengali folk music, the programme was held at the main auditorium of Chhayanaut Shangskriti Bhaban. Noted folk researcher Shamsuzzaman Khan inaugurated the programme on March 13. Vice-president of Chhayanaut Dr. Sarwar Ali delivered welcome address while President of the organisation Dr. Sanjida Khatun thanked all at the event.
The event included solo folk song performances by Erfan Hossen, Abul Kalam Azad, Nadira Begum and Chandana Majumdar. Besides, Susen Chandra Saha Roy and his troupe from Netrakona presented ghatu gaan, Deenbondhu Sarkar and his troupe from Narail performed Behula-Lakkhindar-er Pala and artistes of Chittagong Hill Tracts offered Bon Paharer Nrityageet at the event.
Waheedul Haque believed that it would not be possible to form a complete impression of our culture, without familiarity with our folk music — rooted in our tradition. Upholding the ideal, Chhayanaut has been arranging this programme for the last eight years, highlighting various forms of folk songs practiced in different parts of the country.
