Yasmin Mushtari to serenade Australia
Noted Nazrul exponent Yasmin Mushtari had captivated audiences in Australia with her moving performances last year, and this year the land down under has beckoned her once more to perform for them. The artiste will perform at programmes to be held at Brisbane and Canberra, and this time she is also sought after in Adelaide. Mushtari is expected to travel for the capital from Sydney on March 31, marking her first performance in the country.
Organised by ATN Canberra, the programme is titled “Gaane Jege Uthok Canberra” and will take place at the auditorium of St. John Paul College. “My repertoire will also include patriotic numbers and more, but I will place most priority on Nazrul songs,” said the artiste. The remaining days prove to be quite bustling – with a show lined up on April 1 at Brisbane, organised by Society of Bangladesh Doctors in Queensland. The final performance will take place the next day at Adelaide in Burnside Community Centre, organised by Pidim Pathagar.
“To be appreciated to the extent where I would be invited once again to perform, is a matter of great honour,” said the artiste, “Despite being so far away from home, Bangladeshi expatriates place great importance in upholding their roots and go through great lengths to expose the younger generation of Bengali-Australians to their cultural heritage, and these programmes certainly help build bridges between the Australian community to Bangladesh. This is a monumental task, one that they did not have to take upon themselves, but do so for the sheer love of their country.”
