Sharalipi: Rising singer releases new album
Tanjina Karim Sharalipi's life changed forever when she was selected as a participant for the famed Zee Bangla talent hunt show “Sa Re Ga Ma Pa.” Since her return, she has been active in establishing her music career, and has a new album along the way.
Sharalipi is slated to release a new album early next year, titled “Kanna Megher Phul”. The singer informed The Daily Star that the venture contains a myriad of songs reminiscent of ghazals, classical, a duet and even a commercial number. “Two songs have been recorded, and there are three more to go,” she elaborated.
The upcoming singer is also involved in a Nazrul Sangeet project where the songs are released on YouTube under the collective title “Iti”. “I have already released five songs, and we will do five more, uploading one new song every month,” she added.
The singer staunchly identifies herself with classical music, saying, “I believe that those that have classical training, can sing any genre of songs. But as an artiste, I don't approve of modern, fusion styles, and prefer to stick to melodies that reflect our country's traditions.”
Aside from her singing ventures, the artiste is endowing her skills to young learners. Recently appointed as a full time music teacher at Mastermind School, Dhaka, she works with children from grades 4-7. “It was quite challenging at first, because the children come from English medium backgrounds and are quite reluctant to learn traditional Bangla songs. We started very slow, but they have been making very good progress,” she stated.
