National Instrumental Music Festival ends tomorrow at BSA
For the first time, Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) has arranged National Instrumental Music Festival at the open premises of BSA. Noted Bangladeshi solo sarod, sitar, santoor, flute, violin, tabla, Hawaiian guitar, accordion and sarangi artistes along with instrumentalists from different districts of Bangladesh, regular artistes of BSA and several orchestras are performing at the festival. The festival, open from 4pm to 9pm daily, will conclude tomorrow.
The objectives of holding the festival is to make the present generation with the glorious history of over 600 instruments of Bangladesh and to inspire them to practise various instruments, creating an instrumental archive and bringing out an international-standard publication on different instruments of Bangladesh.
On the ninth day (January 9), instrumentalists from several districts -- Gopalganj, Feni, Munsiganj, Panchagah, Netrakona, Joypurhat, Comilla and Borguna – entertained the audience with their presentations. The district-level artistes played classical, modern and time-honoured folk instruments at the festival. Noted flautist Md. Moniruzzaman with fellow flautists, sarod artiste Kamal Jahir Shamim, noted violinist Md. Alauddin Mian and the artistes of BSA also performed at the festival.
On the concluding day (January 11) violinist Dr. Rupasi Momtaz, flautist Murtaza Kabir Murad and santoor artiste Salahuddin Santanu will present solo recitals. The performance by the members of Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defence Party orchestra together with the performances by the instrumentalists from several districts – Rangamati, Lalmonirhaat, Barisal, Cox's Bazar, Sylhet and Rajshahi – will also follow.
Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Noor inaugurated the festival as chief guest on January 1 while BSA DG Liaquat Ali Lucky presided over the programme.
