Dhrupad and flute recital at Praner Khela
Bengal Foundation held its regular musical soiree “Praner Khela” shedding light on classical music at the main auditorium of Chhayanaut on May 18.
Two Gurus – Dr. Asit Roy and Murtaza Kabir Murad – along with their disciples of two ogranisations -- Sharaj-Pancham (Tangail) and Aroho (Dhaka) performed dhrupad and flute respectively at the event.
Artistes of Sharaj-Pancham first took the stage to render dhrupad set on Raga Malkauns and sur-phak-taal. They also performed khyal and tarana based on Raga Yaman and teentaal. Later, Guru Asit Roy presented alap, jod and jhala on Raga Shankara and a bandish set on sur-phak-taal.
In the second part of the programme, Murtaza Kabir Murad led his troupe in reciting flute based on Raga Hansadhwani on teentaal. Starting with alap, their performance focused on madhyalaya and drut teentaal. Murad wrapped up the soiree with playing a Pahadi dhun.
Swarup Hossain and Ratan Kumar Das on table, Alamgir Parvez Sumon on pakhawaj, Asit Roy on harmonium and Gyan Sankar Paul and Tapash Bairagion tanpura accompanied the performances.
Luva Nahid Choudhury, Director General of Bengal Foundation, hosted the programme.
