[WATCH] Artcell announce third album
Artcell, one of the most popular rock bands in Bangladesh, announced on Tuesday that their much-awaited third album will be released prior to the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr, exclusively on GP Music – Grameenphone's smartphone-based music streaming service, in association with G-Series.
This will be the first album in 10 years for the band that pioneered a new wave of Bangla rock music of the 2000s. The yet-untitled album will feature the original lineup of Lincoln, Ershad, Cezanne and Shaju.
The band also launched an exclusive music video of their latest single “Obimrishshota” from the album. The teaser of “Obimrishshota” has been widely viewed on the web since last week. GP Music also hosted a fan contest, from which five lucky winners got the opportunity join the announcement event.
George Lincoln D'Costa, vocalist and guitarist of Artcell, remarked, “This album is very special for the four of us. We have been through a lot together, and gave everything we had behind the making of all the songs. We sincerely hope that our fans will enjoy 'Obimrishshota' and the upcoming album”.
Along with the announcement, Artcell put out a call to all their fans - the 'Artcell Army' to unite for the grand occasion and celebrate their philosophy – 'Artcellism'. The band also launched a web site, www.artcellism.com – where all the updates about their upcoming album will be regularly posted.
Muntasir Hossain, head of Digital Services of Grameenphone, voiced his excitement at the event: “We are very proud to bring Artcell back after 10 years with their upcoming album. We had a sneak preview of some of the songs from the new album and I can confidently say that it will be an instant fan favourite.”
Artcell stormed to the underground rock music scene of the country with “Odekha Sworgo” in the 2000 mixed album “Charpotro”, and have since made an indelible impact on music fans with their two albums “Onnosomoy” (2002) and “Oniket Prantor” (2006) along with a number of singles – characterised by their brand of galloping progressive rock tunes, abstract, poetic lyrics and power-packed live performances. Their third album has been rumoured for the last five years, and fans had been waiting with bated breath. With Cezanne and Shaju having left the country, the band went through lineup changes, but the reunion of the original quartet will surely have the fans excited.
