“The Circle” assembling a powerhouse cast
Director James Ponsoldt is still coming up in the feature world, but one thing that he has proven in the last few years is that he definitely knows how to put a cast together. He paired Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Aaron Paul for “Smashed”; brought Miles Teller and Shailene Woodley together for the first time in the “The Spectacular Now”, and most recently created a brilliant duo with Jesse Eisenberg and Jason Segel in “The End of the Tour”. However, his biggest casting names are in his upcoming project, “The Circle”.
Tom Hanks is the biggest name set to be a part of cast for “The Circle”, and James Ponsoldt has given him an exciting role to work with. In the movie, he will play one of the founders of the titular company - an internet monopoly that unifies everything in a person's life - from social media, to email, to online shopping.
Next up is Emma Watson, who will reportedly play the central protagonist that the audience will follow through the plot of the film. She is set to play Mae Holland, a young and ambitious programmer who gets hired for a job at Tom Hanks' character's company. She finds herself at the center of “a new age of civility and transparency,” but there is a serious question about whether or not this is actually a good thing.
John Boyega first broke out thanks to his role in the fantastic “Attack The Block” a few years ago, and is on the verge of international superstardom thanks to his central role in “Star Wars: The Force Awakens”. He also has a key role to play in “The Circle”, where he will be playing an 'iconised' child prodigy named Ty who is also part of the titular company.
The latest addition to the cast, according to Deadline, is the beautiful Karen Gillan. The actress is already well-versed in the world of science-fiction, having starred both on “Doctor Who” and “Guardians of the Galaxy”, and she'll be exploring the genre once again. She will be playing Annie, who is described as being "a warm, cute, goofy, old-money confident and fiercely intelligent member" of the company.
Production is scheduled to begin later this month. As of now, the feature doesn't have a release date.
