Five day Bhutan Film Festival begins in Dhaka
Celebrating the 60th birth anniversary of Bhutanese King Jigme Singye Wangchuk, the Royal Bhutanese Embassy in Dhaka has arranged a five-day film festival at the Kabi Sufia Kamal Auditorium of Bangladesh National Museum.
The fest, running from October 2 till 6, has been arranged in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture of Bangladesh and the Bangladesh National Museum.
Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Noor inaugurated the festival as chief guest in presence of Bhutanese Ambassador in Dhaka, Pema Choden; BNM director general Faizul Latif Chowdhury; and some other foreign ambassadors and high commissioners.
Following the brief inauguration ceremony, feature film “The CUP” was screened at the festival.
The plot revolves around the final match of 1998 FIFA World Cup which took place in France. Half way around the world, the serene atmosphere of a Buddhist monastery is disrupted by the football fever of a young Buddhist monk and soccer enthusiasts.
The film, shot on location and with a cast drawn mainly from the Buddhist monastery, won Special Jury Award at Munich Film Festival 1999. Also, it bagged Alpe d'Huez International Comedy Film Festival 2000 award.
The festival will feature a total of six Bhutanese feature films: “The CUP”, “Travellers And Magicians”, “Chorten Kora”, “Lengo- I & II” and “Echung Lhamo”. The featured documentaries and travelogues are: “School Among Glaciers”, “Price of Letter”, “The Red Door”, “Nazhoen Express”, “Price of Knowledge”, “The Cost of Climate Change” and “Lingzhi: The Land of Medicinal Herbs”.
Most of the films and documentaries have been screened at some of the major international film festivals in different parts of the world.
Screenings will be daily at 10:30am, 1pm, 3:30pm and 6pm. The festival is open to all.
