Wings of Imagination at AFD
Queenie's Art, in association with Alliance Francaise de Dhaka (AFD) has organsied a group art exhibition titled “Wings of Imagination” at La Galerie of AFD, Dhanmondi, Dhaka. The exhibition is an outcome of an art camp held last winter at Nakkhatrabari Resort, Gazipur.
Renowned artist Mizanur Rahim, Dean, Faculty of Fine and Performing Arts of Shanto Mariam University of Creative Technology, art critic; architect Professor Shamsul Wares, Dean, School of Environmental Science and Design, University of Asia Pacific and Sadya Afreen Mallick, Editor, Arts and Entertainment, The Daily Star were among the distinguished guests present at the opening ceremony. Bruno Plasse, Director, Alliance Française de Dhaka welcomed the guests and presided over the opening ceremony.
“An artist requires a clear conscience about time and place and a deep passion for any artistic venture. We must evaluate our works, keeping this in mind,” said Shamsul Wares.
The organisers honoured eminent painter Samarjit Roy Chowdhury at the event. Sadya Afreen Mallick presented him with uttario while Shamsul Wares presented him a bouquet and Mizanur Rahim handed over a crest to him.
An art camp titled “Wings of Imagination” was coordinated by Queenie's Art at the Nakkhatrabari resort in Gazipur from December 12-15, 2014. It was organised to honour the eminent artist Samarjit Roy Chowdhury, recipient of the Ekushey Padak in 2014. The serene location was chosen for the convenience of the artist who responded to the call of the convener artist Nasima Khanam Queenie to be a part of her camp -- to help spread the participants' wings of imagination.
The participants of the art camp and exhibition were Professor Samarjit Roy Chowdhury, Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Dhaka; Professor Nasreen Begum, Department of Oriental Art, Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Dhaka; Syed Hassan Mahmud and Atia Islam of Jhapi Art School; Ashok Karmakar, executive artist of Prothom Alo; Rafi Haq, editor of Shilpa Prabaha; Praddyut Kumar Das of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy; artist and art critic Zahid Mustafa, Bipasha Hayat, Fahmida Enam Kakoli, and Ashraful Hasan along with the organiser Nasima Khanam Queenie and two promising artists-- Azmeer Hossain and Shahnoor Mamun. The artworks conceived and created from this art camp are on display at the gallery. As Queenie's Art states in its mission statement, the artworks eloquently reflect the spirit of the artists' expression of love in their truest forms.
The exhibition, opening from Mondays to Thursdays (3pm to 9pm) and on Fridays and Saturdays (9am to12pm and 5pm to 8pm), will continue till June 15.
