Age of Saturn @ Daily Star-Bengal Arts Precinct
“Age of Saturn”, a unique first solo exhibition by Australian-Bangladeshi artist Omar Chowdhury, is now on at the Daily Star–Bengal Arts Precinct, in The Daily Star Centre.
Created in close collaboration with the political and economic historian Dr. Shahidul Zaman (an alias used by Dhali Al Mamoon), the show explores important questions of how one can experience , or re-experience history and one's own past. Constructed through several years of dialogue and research, Chowdhury and Zaman deploy autobiography, narrative, and concept to create an ambitious and intricate survey of key moments and controversies in the history of Bengal.
Working in a diverse range of media including film, text, sculpture, photography, electronics, installation, performance and action, the artist and historian present a rich, alternative language of inquiry into how the past creates the present and the present can create the past.
The ground floor showcases 10 works titled including Lightbox (Absence), Photograph (Now), Combine (Absence), Film (Now), Combine (Exhile-1) Photograph (Future), Text, Tables and Chairs while the mezzanine level displays 11 works like Photograph ( Headshot), Sculpture (Eternity), Combine (Pre-history -1), Lightbox (Exile Now), Photograph (Disillusionment), System decay and its origins.
The show is open from January 25 to March 12, daily from 12pm to 8pm.
