Udichi pays homage to Tagore-Nazrul-Sukanta
In celebration of the birth anniversaries of three iconic Bengali poets- Rabindranath Tagore, Kazi Nazrul Islam and Sukanta Bhattacharya-- Dhaka Mahanagar Unit of Udichi arranged a programme on Monday evening at the National Music and Dance Centre auditorium of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy.
The event began with the choral rendition of songs written by the three poets. Tagore's “Aguner Poroshmoni” followed by Nazrul's “Karar Oi Louho Kopat” and Sukanta's “Hey Mohamanob Ekbar Esho Phirey” set the mood of the evening.
Next on the agenda was a discussion presided over by Kazi Mohammad Sheesh, president of Udichi Dhaka Mahanagar Unit. Professor Niranjan Adhikary, Professor Shafiuddin Ahmed and Dr. Shoumitra Shekhar shed light on the lives and works of the three poets. Also present was Kamal Lohani, president of Udichi Central Committee.
Following the discussion, artistes of Udichi presented a cultural programme which included chorus and solo songs, recitations and dance pieces. The event concluded with the staging of Tagore's play “Dakghor” by the artistes of Udichi's theatre wings.
