Milia Ali's “Phirite Chahe Na Akhi” unveiled
It was an interactive event on June 12 where renowned singer-columnist Milia Ali's friends, fellow artistes, family members, eminent personalities and music enthusiasts gathered at the Daily Star-Bengal Arts Precinct to launch the artiste's third solo audio album, titled “Phirite Chahe Na Akhi”, featuring songs of DL Roy and Atul Prasad.
Eminent Nazrul exponent and Star Arts and Entertainment Editor Sadya Afreen Mallick, in her welcome address, elaborated the literary and musical creations and contributions of DL Roy and Atul Prasad. She also walked down memory lane to the '60s, Chhayanaut's role of building a nation's cultural conscience and artistes like Milia Ali, Dalia Nausheen and others' musical contributions during the War of Liberation.
Mahfuz Anam, Editor and Publisher of The Daily Star; Minu Haque, noted dancer-choreographer; Sadi Mohammad, renowned Tagore singer and Shaheen Anam Executive Director of Manusher Jonno Foundation were among others who spoke highly of Milia Ali.
“Milia Ali is a devoted singer who should not be judged according to her popularity; rather she is more than popular regarding her artistic quality, taste and humility,” said Shaheen Anam.
“Milia Ali is amongst the certain Tagore singers who, emerging in late '60s and early '70s played her musical roles during Liberation War. I can still remember one of her live performances in Kolkata where she shared the stage with legends like Hemanta Mukherjee, Debabrata Biswas and others for a charity concert in December 1971,” recalled Minu Haque.
“I learned the featured songs of the album from legends like Krishna Chattopadhyay, the legendary singer of Atul Prasad and DL Roy songs and Banani Ghosh who learnt from Dilip Kumar Roy and Kanika Bandyopadhyay. I felt the songs are going into oblivion. As I learned the songs from the legends, the originality of the numbers is unquestionable,” said Milia Ali.
Noted Indian musician Rahul Chattopadhyay has directed the music for the album that features 10 tracks; of them seven are composed by Atul Prasd while three are by DL Roy. The recorded songs include different styles -- kirttananga, baitalik and rare melodious songs like “Rakhte Jodi Apon Ghor-e”, “Eki Shyamol Shushoma”, “Mora Nachi Phul-e Phul-e”, “Chahi Autripto Nayane”, and “Ami Sara Sakalti Boshey Boshey”.
Following the launch, the artiste performed three songs – “Chahi Atripto Nayane”, “Ami Sara Sakalti” and “Hori Hey Kondin”.
