Bengal Boi to launch today
Bengal Publications' new book store 'Bengal Boi' is set to launch today in the capital, with four days of cultural events.
The inaugural ceremony will be held at 4:30pm today at their premises at 1/3, Lalmatia Block-D, where Prime Minister's Foreign Affairs Advisor Gowher Rizvi and eminent educationist Professor Emeritus Anisuzzaman will be present. Bengal Publications' book “Stories from the Edge: Personal Narratives of the Liberation War” will also be launched at the ceremony. One of the editors of the book, Dr. Niaz Zaman – an advisor at the department of English at Independent University, Bangladesh will speak on the book.
From November 15-18, there will be an array of programmes – music, adda, book launches and film screening – at the venue in morning and evening sessions.
On November 15, the morning session will feature a lively adda and music with senior citizens, in association with 'Boyoshwi Kalyan Samiti”. Rabindra Sangeet artiste Mita Haq and human rights activist Advocate Sultana Kamal will be present at the event. The evening session will see the launch of book “Sahityer Birol Anginaye”, and a saxophone performance by renowned artiste Moniruzzaman.
The next day will feature chorus songs by students of UODA, and film screening by students of ULAB and Pathshala. Veteran visual artist Monirul Islam and young filmmaker Nuhash Humayun will be present at the morning session. The evening session will see the book “Bangla'r Renaissance O Lalon Fakir” being launched by writer-researcher Professor Bishwajit Ghosh. Following the book launch, eminent artiste Farida Parveen will render songs of Lalon, while Abu Ishaq Hossain will speak about his music and philosophy.
A children's art workshop conducted by artist Mustafizul Haq will open proceedings on the morning of November 17. Ulfath Kabir will host a magic show for the children, where noted artist Kanak Chanpa Chakma will be present as guest.
The final day's proceedings will begin with songs by visually-impaired students of the Baptist Church School, followed by choral renditions of songs by students of Shurer Dhara. Rupa Chowdhury will have a storytelling session for the children, while prominent Rabindra Sangeet singer Rezwana Chowdhury Bannya will be a special guest. The evening session will feature the launch of book “Samar Sen: Jonmoshotobarshik Shroddhanjoli” edited by Khaled Hossain and Sajjad Arefin. Researcher-columnist Begum Akhtar Kamal will launch the book. The book launch will be followed by a poetry reading session of contemporary poets.
