Art is the best way to communicate between cultures
Internationally reputed Polish artist Professor Zygmunt Rafal Strent is now on his visit to Bangladesh as international jury member of the 17th Asian Art Biennale. He, along with eminent Bangladeshi artist Professor Rafiqun Nabi (Chairman of the Jury Board), Ms. Dolorosa Sinaga (Indonesia), Yuko Hasegawa (Japan) and Jinsub Yoon (Republic of Korea) selected the nine awards at this year's biennale, from over 500 artworks.
Rafal Strent is a painter and a renowned graphic artist of Poland. He never thought of coming to Bangladesh, though he did a work on this alluvial land titled “The Bay of Bengal” in 1979.
Art is the best way to communicate between cultures and people, he asserted.
A former Dean of The Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, Poland and jury of many European art events, he was also a visiting professor of Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design, Wisconsin (USA).
“Graphic art is very popular in Poland. The place of painting and print came next. As Poland is a communist country, artists express their voices and arrogance through a distinctive biennale called 'International Poster Biennale in Warsaw',” said Rafal Strent.
To initiate art exchange programmes between Bangladesh and Poland, Rafal hopes to put forward the matter to the Bangladeshi ambassador in Warsaw. Rafal is thinking of holding exhibitions and workshops participated by Bangladeshi artists in Poland and vice versa. “Of course it is possible. Your ambassador and I will meet personally to make the idea come into reality,” he concluded.
