Anup Bhattacharya in critical care
Anup Bhattacharya, a musical director extraordinaire who composed a number of iconic Bangla songs, is in critical condition. He fell ill on Friday due to cardiac complications, and is currently on life support at BIRDEM in the capital.
The artiste was rushed into intensive care following a high fever and respiratory problems. He received initial treatment at Popular Hospital's HDU, before being admitted to BIRDEM.
Anup Bhattacharya lent melodies to some of the most celebrated songs in modern Bangla music. “Boishakhi Megher Kache, Jol Cheye Tumi KaNdbe Ami Chai Na”, written by Abul Hayat Mohammad Kamal and sung by Mohammad Rafiqul Alam, and Mitali Mukherjee's “Shukh Pakhi Re Pinjira Tor Khule Dilam Aj” were tuned by him. Other popular creations include “Kichhu Bolo Na”, “Amar Ek Janala Akash Chhara”, “Na Bolo Na” and “Aguner Rongo Porabey Ongo” written by Mohammad Rafiquzzaman; “Konodin Kono Oboshorey” and “Bohudin Holo Bhengechhi Ghor” with lyricist Abu Zafar.
