All-female cast for 'Ocean's Eleven' offshoot
An all-female offshoot of 'Ocean's Eleven' is in the works. According to The Hollywood Reporter, seven of the eight main roles have already been cast for the upcoming 'Ocean's Ocho' caper film.
Gary Ross, who cowrote the script with Olivia Milch, will helm the film. As with the reboot franchise's previous movies, 'Ocean's Ocho' will be a star-studded affair. Rihanna is among the stars to have signed on to the Warner Bros. movie, along with Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway, Helena Bonham Carter, Mindy Kaling and rapper/actress Awkwafina, THR confirmed. There is still one spot remaining to round out the principal cast.
As Deadline reports, Steven Soderbergh, who helmed 2001's 'Ocean's Eleven' remake and sequels 'Ocean's Twelve' and 'Ocean's Thirteen,' will produce 'Ocean's Ocho.' The film is slated to begin production this October in New York.
'Ocean's Ocho's' cast announcement follows on the heels of this summer's all-female reboot of 'Ghostbusters', which caused a stir amid fans of the original male version.
