Arrest warrant issued against Kader Siddique
A Dhaka court yesterday issued an arrest warrant against Krishak Sramik Janata League President Abdul Kader Siddique in a defamation case filed for labelling former home minister Mohiuddin Khan Alamgir as a “razakar”.
The order came as Siddique remained absent on 14 consecutive dates without taking any step on his behalf.
The court asked Mohammadpur police officer-in-charge to submit by December 11 a report on execution of the order.
It also issued a show cause notice asking the complainant, freedom fighter Ruhul Amin Majumder, why he had also been absent on the dates.
Siddique last appeared before the court on March 18 last year and got bail.
Ruhul Amin filed the case on February 19 last year, stating that Siddique, at a party conference at the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh on February 9, said the war crimes trial was not possible when "a razakar home minister" was in chair.
During the 1971 Liberation War, Alamgir was an additional deputy commissioner of Mymensingh and he was against the war and “I was a witness to his role”, Siddique told the conference, according to the case.
