Arrest warrant for Khoka, 8 others
A Dhaka court today issued arrest warrants against former Dhaka City Corporation mayor Sadeque Hossain Khoka and eight others in a case filed for hurling crude bombs at the Election Commission office in October last year.
After accepting the charges against Khoka and eight others, Judge Jahurul Haque of the Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s Court passed the order.
The order came after Sub-Inspector Moshiur Rahman, also the investigation officer of the case, appealed to the court to issue an arrest warrant against Khoka and eight others as they were shown fugitives in the charge sheet.
The court asked officers-in-charge (OCs) of different police stations to submit by February 11 reports on execution of arrest warrants.
Sources said Khoka is now in USA for treatment.
Apart from Khoka and eight others, Jatiyatabadi Jubo Dal President Syed Moazzem Hossain Alal, General Secretary Saiful Islam Nirob and 12 others were also charged for their alleged involved with the incident.
During the today’s hearing, Alal, Nirob and 12 others, now on bail, were present in the court.
According to the case statement, a group of BNP-led 18-party leaders and activists led by Alal and Nirob brought out a procession in front of EC office around 1:45pm on October 27 last year during a hartal. They also hurled crude bombs at the first gate of the EC office.
Later, Sher-e-Bangla police filed a case against Alal, Nirob and 11 others for the offences. Khoka and nine others were not named in the First Information Report. But police pressed charges against Khoka and nine others as their involvement with the incident was found in the investigation.
