Arrest warrant against Fakhrul
A Dhaka court today issued an arrest warrant against BNP spokesperson Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir in a case filed for assaulting police and torching vehicles at Kadamtali in Dhaka during a road blockade in December 2012.
Metropolitan Magistrate MB Yunus Khan passed the order as Fakhrul did not appear before the court today, the scheduled date for acceptance of the charge sheet in the case.
Earlier on June 16, Kadamtali police submitted the charge sheet against Fakhrul and 60 other leaders and activists of the then BNP-led 18-party opposition alliance.
According to the charge sheet, the opposition activists during the protest programme blocked the roads in Kadamtali area, torched and vandalised vehicles, attacked law enforcers and prevented them from discharging their duties.
Later in the day, the Kadamtali police filed the case against more than 100 opposition leaders and activists including Mirza Fakhrul.
