Anisuzzaman lighthouse for Bangladeshis
Prof Emeritus Anisuzzaman is a lighthouse to Bangladeshis who uphold the values of the Liberation War, said speakers at a reception yesterday on the occasion of Anisuzzaman being selected for the Padma Bhushan award of India.
Bangladesh Rukhey Darao, a socio-cultural organisation, accorded the reception to the professor at the Liberation War Museum in the capital.
“I became involved with different kinds of works and have come across a range of diverse people. I could not stick to a single thing, but I am satisfied with what I have accomplished,” said Prof Anisuzzaman, adding, “Please pray that I never become conceited.”
Former advisers to caretaker governments Jamilur Reza Choudhury, Dr Akbar Ali Khan and Advocate Sultana Kamal, lawyer Dr Shahdin Malik and economist Prof MM Akash, among others, spoke.
The noted academician was awarded the third highest civilian award of the Indian government on January 25 this year for his contribution to literature and education.
