AL leader beaten up by Jubo Dal men dies
A ward-level Awami League leader who was beaten up allegedly by some Jubo Dal men over establishing supremacy at Sondara village in Ramganj upazila on Friday, died at a hospital in the capital early yesterday.
The deceased was identified as Jahangir Alam, member secretary of 6 no. ward of Isapur union unit of Awami League and son of late Dudu Miah of the village.
Police said, local Jubo Dal leader Mahbubur Rahman, party activist Siraj Uddin and Abdur Rahman swooped on Jahangir while he was gossiping at a tea stall in Sondara, following a previous enmity in the area.
The attackers beat up the AL leader mercilessly, leaving him seriously injured.
Injured Jahangir was admitted to Ramganj Upazila Health Complex, from where he was shifted to Noakhali General Hospital.
As his condition deteriorated, he was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) where he succumbed to his injuries in the early hours yesterday.
Officer in-charge of Ramganj Police Station, M Lokman Hossain, confirmed the incident saying that they were raiding different areas to arrest those involved in the killing.
