Akond fined Tk 10,000 for misleading media
The High Court today imposed a fine of Tk 10,000 to Supreme Court lawyer Eunus Ali Akond for distorting its order about taking steps to prevent Ebola contamination in the country.
The HC bench of Justice Naima Haider and Justice Md Zahangir Hossain passed the order after hearing arguments from Akond.
After appearing before the bench as per its October 20, Akond today remained stick to his claim that the court had asked the government to screen all incoming passengers at all international airports and border areas with the help of arm force to identify Ebola virus.
However, the High Court on that day actually ordered to take a step for screening of air passengers coming from Ebola-affected African counties only.
Emerging from the courtroom on the same day, Akond gave distorted information to the media about the court order.
He also told the media that the court had directed the government to provide humanitarian aid to United Nation's health emergency fund and the Ebola affected countries.
Hearing from Akond, Justice Naima Haider today said the court on October 20 told him several times that it will pass an order after recasting his prayer as there were a lot of mistakes and errors in his petition.
But today Akond remained stick to his claim and became desperate before the court.
At a stage, Justice Naima Haider termed Akond “a lair” and said she will not use the title “doctor” before his name in future.
Some lawyers present at the courtroom tried to stop Akond from making desperate argument but he did not pay any heed to them.
