Ahsan Zaheer passes away
Ahsan Zaheer, the first cricketer to score a century in competitive cricket in Bangladesh, passed away at Birdem hospital in Dhaka this afternoon.
The 60-year-old great compatriot and a popular figure amongst both the media and the cricketing fraternity, Zaheer died hours after his elder brother passed away last night.
According to ex-cricketers, Zaheer had scored the century in the early 70s during a domestic competition.
Members of Bangladesh’s cricketing fraternity expressed their grief through different platforms.
“His contribution to Bangladesh’s cricket was immense. He really felt and cared for this nation’s cricket,” said BCB Director Ahmed Sajjadul Alam, who was a close friend to Zaheer.
