Abducted Jubo League man’s body found in Munshiganj
The dilapidated and tied up body of a local Jubo League leader who was abducted on Thursday was found from Louhajang upazila of Munshiganj today.
The body of Rafiqul Islam Rafiq, 32, cultural secretary of Louhajang upazila Jubo League, youth wing of ruling Awami League, was found with the tendons of hands and legs severed and tied up, police said.
He was abducted from Kazir Pagla Kader road in the upazila yesterday (Thursday) morning, our Munshiganj correspondent reports quoting Tofazzal Hossain, the officer-in-charge of Louhajang Police Station.
“We found Rafiq’s sandals and three masks, used by the abductors, from the area yesterday evening. There was blood on the spot,” the police official said.
“Today morning, we found his body from Kazir Pagla Chitakhila area with hands and legs tied up and his tendons severed,” the OC said.
Some witnesses were being interrogated in this connection, the OC said.
A witness told the correspondent that Rafiq was picked up on a microbus from Kazir Pagla Kader road, some 150 metres from his workplace, around 8:30am yesterday.
Later, some people saw the microbus in Chitakhola area, but no one could understand the gravity of the matter then. It was only after his family lost communication with Rafiq which made everyone concerned.
One local Awami League leader Mobarak, the prime witness in the murder of businessman Kader, was shot dead in 2012. Rafiq aided Mobarak’s family with a murder case filed over the death.
Family sources said Rafiq was often threatened because of his assistance.
One of the suspects in the Mobarak murder case is now on the run. Police suspect that he is involved with the murder of Jubo League leader Rafiq.
