9 killed in road crashes
Nine people were killed and 53 injured in separate road accidents in three districts across the country today.
Of the deceased, four were killed in Sylhet, three killed in Sirajganj and two in Thakurgaon, report our districts correspondents.
In Sylhet, a bus skidded off the Dhaka-Sylhet highway when driver of a passenger bus lost control over the steering at Sunampur area in Daksin Surma upazila around 2:30am, Anowar Hossain, officer-in-charge (investigation) of local police station said.
Four of the passengers in the bus died on the spot while 25 others sustained injuries, the OC said.
The deceased are Abdul Mukti, 60, Samuj Mia, 55, Protibha Chakrabarty, 55, and Anamika Chakrabarty, 7. They were residents of Dirai upazila of Sunamganj district.
The injured people were taken at Osmani Medical College and Hospital of Sylhet.
The bus was to heading to Sunamganj from Dhaka, the OC added.
Meanwhile, three people were killed in two separate road accidents in Sirajganj district this morning, reports our Pabna correspondent.
Of the victims, two were killed and five injured when a bus hit a easy bike near Bangabandhu bridge in Soydabad area of Sirajganj Sadar upazila in the morning, said ATM Aminul Islam, officer-in-charge of Bangabandhu Bridge (west) Police Station.
Uzzal, 28, driver of the bus and Shahin, 30, passenger of the easy bike died on the spot.
At the same time, a passenger named Siddique, 25, were killed and three injured in a head-on collision between two human haulers in Ullapara upazila of Sirajganj, police said.
In Thakurgaon, a pick-up van fell on a roadside ditch when a bus hit it from backside on Thakurgaon-Dinajpur highway at Comilla Hari in Thakurgaon Sadar upazila, leaving two passengers dead and 20 others injured around 4:30am.
The deceased Harun-or-Rashid, 23 and Hamidul, 22, hailed from Panchagarh district, said AKM Mehedi Hasan, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station.
Of the injured, three critically injured people were shifted to Rangpur Medical College and Hospital.
