8 candidates boycott polls
Eight chairmen candidates, six BNP-backed, today boycotted the fourth phase of the upazila election in Khulna, Barisal and Bhola alleging vote rigging and ouster of their agents by ruling party men.
Three vice-chairman candidates also stayed away from the election on the same allegation.
Six BNP-backed chairmen candidates also alleged that the election officials were working in favour of ruling Awami League-backed candidates, report our correspondents.
KHULNA
Five BNP-backed chairmen candidates boycotted the upazila polls in Batiaghat, Rupsha, Terokhada, Dakop and Phultala upazila through separate press conferences.
They alleged that ruling party men rigged votes and ousted of their agents from polling centres.
Protesting the vote rigging, the district BNP also called a daylong hartal in the upazilas for tomorrow, said Shafikul Alam Mona, general secretary of district BNP.
BARISAL
BNP-backed chairman candidate Afjal Hossain declared to boycott the polls in Agoiljhara upazila at a press conference, claiming huge vote rigging.
He said the ruling AL men took control of over the 38 centres for this purpose.
AL rebel chairman candidate Jyotindranath Mistri also boycotted the polls in the upazila mentioning same allegations.
BHOLA
BNP-backed chairman Shamsuddin Chowdhury Bachchu boycotted the polls through a press conference around 10:30am in Monpura upazila.
A vice-chairman candidate of Jamaat-e-Islami, Al rebel and independent vice-chairmen female candidates also boycotted the polls there for the same reason.
