A Dhaka court today placed seven persons on a five-day remand each in connection with the gun attack on Awami League central leader AKM Enamul Hoque Shameem.
The accused are Monir Hossain alias Monir, Mehedi Hasan alias Saikat, Nazrul Islam alias Jewel, Mohammad Harun, Rana Hawladar, Nazimul Haque, and Nur-e-Alam Siddiki.
Metropolitan Magistrate Mostafizur Rahmand passed the order after Motiur Rhaman, officer-in-charge (investigation) of Dhanmondi Police Station, produced them before it with 10-day remand prayer for each.
In the remand prayer, Motiur, also the investigation officer of the case, said the seven were directly or indirectly involved in the incident.
So, they need to be remanded to find out the motive behind the attack and whereabouts of those involved in the shooting, the IO said.
Meanwhile, the defence lawyers submitted separate bail petitions for their clients saying that they were implicated in the case as a part of conspiracy to harass them.
Of the seven, Detective Branch of police arrested Rana Nazimul, and Nur from Paltan, Sher-e-Bangla Nagar and New Eskaton in the capital last night.
The rest other were arrested by Rapid Action Battalion members in separate drives in the capital and different other parts of the country between Monday night and Tuesday morning.
