7 records on Day 2
Sonia Akter Tumpa stole the show on the second day of the MM Group National Swimming Championships after setting three national records while Mahfizur Rahman Sagor is on course to win eight gold medals at the Gopalganj Swimming Pool and Gymnasium Complex in Gopalganj.
Tumpa of Bangladesh Navy, who produced a new record on the first day in 200m butterfly, rewrote her records in 100m butterfly, 200m individual medley and snatched a record from Bangladesh Ansar in the 4X100 freestyle relay teaming up with Nazma Khatun, Mahfuza Khatun and Lima Akter. All records were noted down by hand, due to the lack of automatic timing devices.
“It is always a good feeling to set a new record and I am looking forward to setting another one in the 50m freestyle, which was previously in my grip,” said Tumpa.
Tumpa's teammate Sagor, who had set two new records on the opening day, rewrote her record in 50m freestyle and set another national record in the 4X100m freestyle event, teaming up with Asif Reza, Anik Islam and Shariful Islam.
With the feats of Tumpa and Sagor, Bangladesh Navy topped the table with 10 gold followed Bangladesh Army (5 gold medals).
